Visit to Mallorca Cuevas del Drach • The Blonde Abroad

When I thought of Mallorca, I imagined those sparkling seas of crystal clear water and white sand beaches. I imagined wandering the winding stone paths covered with bright bougainvillea flowers as I explored the Eternal Mountain villages such as Dejan և Valdemosa.

I dreamed of days soaking up the sun and drinking evenings on that famous Spanish wine.

Now, if you ask me about Mallorca, the first thing that comes to mind is Cuevas del Drach (or Drach Caves). Or this underground treasure was completely far from my radar before I arrived, but now it is one of my favorite places Spain:.

While I thought it might be a little touristy, touring these fascinating caves was one of the highlights of my visit to Mallorca. This all-natural cave system is one of the largest underwater lakes in the world.

This was not only an interesting and beautiful area to explore, but also how the whole experience was organized to make it truly magical.

Are you looking for a truly unique experience? Here’s what you need to know about visiting Cuevas del Drach in Mallorca.

About the caves

Caves Drach, or Coves del Drac, as they are known in Catalan, literally means dragon caves. Located in Manacor, near Porto Cristo, the underground tour is one of the biggest attractions in Mallorca.

There are four areas known as the Cave Cave, the White Cave, the Louis Salvador Cave, and the French Cave, all of which join together. The total length of the cave network is four kilometers (about two and a half miles) և 23 (75.5 feet) deep.

The network of caves was formed by the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, written in 1338. Geologists believe that the caves probably date back to the Miocene, which occurred five to 23 million years ago.

Lake Martel, one of the most famous caves in the world, is named after the French scientist-explorer Edouard-Alfred Martel, who came to visit the caves in 1896. (How is that a welcome gift?).

The Network Pass was mapped just a few years ago by German caveman M.F. By Willie, who discovered the White Cave during his expeditions, as well as the SJ Cave.

About the experience:

I walked through the caves for 45 minutes, impressed at every step.

The enormous number of stalactites and stalagmites surrounding the path is unbelievable. Spending the better part of the month watching the formations was quite a bit of time.

The lighting features of the cave create an extraterrestrial beauty, and then the crystal clear lake underlying it all takes things to another level. I’ve never been to a cave և I really did not expect to be impressed…

But WOW.

The experiment ends in the underground amphitheater. Phones or cameras are not allowed at this time և they illuminate the lights, so you are surrounded by absolute hunger.

Then the band joins the boat, playing classical music, and you sit and soak in the beautiful scenery and the sounds.

The concert lasts about 15 minutes, every second is truly unforgettable.

It’s like something out of a Disney movie: I started crying, it was so beautiful.

Or I would never have thought that going to an underground concert would be something for my bucket list, but that experience was unparalleled. The acoustics of the caves are absolutely wonderful և this was the BEST amount spent.

Drach Mallorca Caves

In general

I have to admit that I thought everything would be useless, but I do not exaggerate when I say that my tears flowed to the end. I do not know when I have enjoyed the experience of 15 euros so completely.

The whole wonderful scene seemed to be something of a fairy tale.

As a note, I visited during COVID, so everything went down, but it was still extremely good. They usually do cruises, you go in with the guide, but that’s all over with my visit. However, I absolutely loved every minute of the tour.
