Carl Nasib becomes the first active player in the NFL to act as a gay | American football news

Nasib made the announcement in an Instagram video, promising $ 100,000 to support LGBTQ youth.

Carl Nasib, who plays a defensive role for the American football team Raiders in Las Vegas, declared that he is gay, becoming the first active member of the National Football League (NFL) to publicly admit his homosexuality.

He made his announcement in a video posted on Instagram.

“I am at home here in West Chester, Pennsylvania,” said Nasib, 28. “I just wanted to say for a moment that I’m gay. I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while, but I finally feel comfortable enough to get it out of my chest. I really have the best life, I have the best family, friends and job a boy can claim.

“I’m a very private person, so I hope you know that guys really do not do it for attention. I just think representation and visibility are very important. “I really hope that one day, for example, the whole process of releasing such videos is not necessary, but until then I will do my best to cultivate an acceptable culture that is compassionate.”

June is Pride Month in the United States.

Nasib also announced a $ 100,000 donation to the Trevor Project.

“They are an incredible organization, they are the number one suicide prevention program in America,” he said.

6-foot (7cm) (201cm) Nasib, entering his sixth NFL season, was the Cleveland Browns’ third-round pick in 2016. He spent two seasons with the Browns (2016-17), followed by two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2018-19) before signing a three-year, $ 25.3 million contract with the Raiders, including almost $ 16.8 million guarantees for March 2020

In 73 career games (37 starts), Nasib has 143 fights (36 for damage), 20.5 bags, 16 saves, one interception, three forced fouls and a fake recovery.

Nasib is on track to become the first openly gay player to play in a regular season game. The end of the defense Michael Sam came out gay in 2014, before the St. Louis Rams drafted him, but he did not reach the final list.
