Dear President Biden, You must act on Palestine Palestine

More than 680 world leaders call on President Biden to honor his commitments to protect Palestinian human rights.

Dear President Biden,

We, the global coalition of undersigned leaders, from civil society to business, the arts, religions, politics, and Nobel laureates, call on the United States to take steps to help end Israeli institutional oppression of the Palestinian people. to protect their fundamental human rights. A lasting, just peace for all will remain elusive if US policy maintains a political status quo without accountability.

Your administration is committed to pursuing a foreign policy “focused on democracy and human rights.” You recently announced: “I believe that the Palestinians and the Israelis alike deserve equal standards of freedom, security, prosperity and democracy.” For the Palestinians, the gap between these statements and their “daily lives” could not be wider.

Even after the official ceasefire, Israeli police’s violence against Palestinians continues. The forcible deportation of Palestinians along the occupied West Bank, including the Sheikh Arragh Mosque in East Jerusalem; This policy destroys the social structure of communities, undermines any progress towards a democratic, just and peaceful future. Their logic has led to the recent deportation of 72,000 Palestinians to Gaza, who must also survive the ongoing humanitarian crisis following the 14-year blockade.

Moving forward, the United States must address the root causes of violence that have repeatedly been ignored by administrations. Your administration must exert coordinated diplomatic pressure to help end ever-increasing discrimination and systemic pressure, and to hold Israeli authorities accountable for violating Palestinian rights.

Only the consistent application of a law-based foreign policy can signal to Israeli leaders that violations of international law will no longer go unnoticed. Mr. President, now is the time to set a new direction in American foreign policy that leads to justice and paves the way for lasting peace.
